The Africa Film Lab/Filmmaking Mentorship (AFLFM) is part of the annual DjarFogo International Film Festival (DIFF.) It is a mastery training program created for youth and industry professionals directed and instructed by African and international industry specialists, professors, and film mentors.

The program will cover all diverse aspects of the visual storytelling of filmmaking, from development to distribution. It seeks to furnish African and Diaspora filmmakers with classic crafts and wisdom, allowing them to tell and share their stories more effectively.

The classes are both theoretical and practical, and by the end of 2023, up to 150 participants will have had the chance to comprehend and put their crafts into practice on actual film stages. DIFF member advisors will trust these candidates and their films, and they will be screening at the 3rd edition of DIFF and foremost international film festivals worldwide.

We propose to bring the first edition of 2023 to Casablanca, Morocco. Based on secure funding is scheduled from 10 to 21 of March 2023.

AFLFM's vision is to inspire disadvantaged young Africans to the Cinema. Including providing opportunities for learning the craft of visual storytelling, film history, and culture. Contribute to the knowledge of the power of African and world cinema as an art of greater dimension. Also, give a voice to minority filmmakers to screen and promote their films worldwide—train and certificate low-income students from Africa, particularly Morocco, African nations, and Diaspora. Film local History, culture, elderly's life experiences, stories, and aspirations, contributing substantially to the youth's self-esteem and validation.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Each session of AFLFM will select 25 (M/F) African and Diaspora-inspiring young filmmakers to receive an exceptional professional training experience and an introduction to the global filmmaking community.

Over two weeks, participants will watch and discuss classic movies. They will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from internationally acclaimed filmmakers and guest professors about all the aspects of film production, from development to distribution and how to submit your film to major film festivals worldwide.
Provide specialized hands-on education to learn the art of making a movie.

A comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process, including image composition and lighting, camera movements, editing, sound, budgeting, and scheduling.

Responsibilities of the director concerning pre-production, production, and post-production.

How to work with actors, and the directorial skills required for a successful artistic collaboration.

How to prepare a film for shooting, such as script analysis, casting, camera blocking, planning the shot list, photographing the subtext, film grammar, visual composition, the role of music, and sound effects.
